iOS 8 Sneak Peaks <<< They're in the book!

Good morning, iPad Lawyer Tribe —

I’m proud to announce that the Second Edition of “The Million Dollar iPad” is available NOW AT AMAZON.

The-Million-Dollar-iPad-2dEd-Promo

You can find it here >>> http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DTVKT7G

It’s in Kindle format so you can easily carry it with you everywhere you and your iPad (or iPhone for that matter) need to be.

“The Million Dollar iPad” was first released more than a year ago, reached #1 on Amazon in its category, and has consistently remained on a number of bestseller lists since then. You’d think I’d be content with that.

But . . . nooooo . . . technology is always changing and we’re on the eve of Apple’s release of iOS 8 and new iOS devices.

So, I just had to give you the latest and greatest information.

This new version —

•  Has been expanded to nearly 300 pages.

•  Has updated time-saving checklists.

•  Has 9 pages of iOS 8 Sneak Peaks.

•  Has more amazing how-to guides.

•  Has more incredible apps.

Now, more than ever, “The Million Dollar iPad” is the unique way for you to connect the dots to your iPad success. It’s a book that provides you answers (lots of answers) to what you need most. Whether you’re a beginning, intermediate, or advanced iPad user, this book has something for you.

Inside the book, you’ll find:

• How to get started quickly by using my personal “Can’t-Do-Without” and “Presenting Wirelessly/Wired” checklists. Some of you will find the time I save you with these checklists, alone, is worth the price of this book.

• Some wonderful basics you need to know. From how to back up your iPad to email management to rearranging your apps, there’s stuff in here you’ve likely not seen elsewhere. Of course, there’s iOS 8 sneak preview information.

• Understanding the shortcuts that are available on your iPad. I’ll teach you keyboard shortcuts, how to maximize your battery life, multitasking techniques, taking a screenshot, and more.

• There are some insanely great accessories for your iPad that will make you more productive. And I even teach you my technique for giving presentations wirelessly with an iPad.

• But wait, there’s more. “The Million Dollar iPad” has a bonus section based on questions that business people have asked me. There are even some iPad travel tips (including how to handle time zone settings). And, there’s an appendix with a listing of iOS keyboard special characters, Bluetooth keyboard special characters, and a listing of AirPrint printers so you can print wirelessly.

If you think all of this is exciting, I’ve really only touched the surface.  The Second Edition of “The Million Dollar iPad” is THE way for you to discover the iPad secrets that will turn your iPad into a money-making and time-saving machine.

You can reserve your seat here >>> http://www.apple.com/retail/thirdstreetpromenade/

On the app front, I’m excited. You’ve heard me say that if you took every third party app away from me and only let me have one back I would choose Goodreader 4. This is a cross-device (it will work on your iPad and iPhone) app that is a file manager, PDF reader, manager, and annotater, file browser, storage tool, and on and on. Normally, this app is $2.99. Today it is on sale for $.99. You save $2.

If you want to create really detailed flow charts and diagrams of processes, you might enjoy inShort. With inShort, you can build custom diagrams that depict tasks in minute detail. Normally, this app is $8.99. Today it is only $4.99. You save $4.

App Store Link – https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/inshort/id423213182?mt=8

For those of you who like to give presentations with your iPad, take a look at Flowboard. You can use photos, videos, PDFs, text, etc. Then, you can create a URL for other devices to access your presentation. The app is FREE (however, there are some in-app purchases available if you want more robust options).

I mentioned the new app from Tom Hanks — Hanx Writer — in a separate post. But it’s worth repeated here. Tom Hanks has released a tribute to his love of typewriters by offering a writing app that emulates the look and sound (not the touch) of a typewriter. There is a FREE version that offers one style of typewriter. There is also an in-app upgrade if you want more versions and options. If nothing else, this app is just plain, old fun to use and listen to.

I usually only post about apps that I’ve actually tried and usually only post those that work primarily on your iPad. However, Conferencia is one of those iPhone apps that just looks too cool and useful not to give you a head’s up on even before I give it a go. Here’s the app publisher’s description: “With Conferencia you won’t ever have to remember or enter phone numbers and audio pins to dial into conference calls. No more fumbling with your smartphone on the go!Conferencia parses your smartphone calendar and shows you all your conference calls and meetings in a convenient agenda view. Simply touching the call icon or acting on the reminder will dial you right into your conference call, without having to look up, remember, or dial any numbers. Conferencia also allows you to easily call, text or email attendees without having to look up their information in your contacts and to use calling cards to automatically dial international numbers. You can take and save notes for all your calls so action items and next steps are never forgotten.” Best of all, Conferencia is FREE.

Well, there’s enough stuff here to keep you busy over the weekend. And make certain you reserve your seat for my August 27 Apple event!

The iPad Lawyer – TrialPad on Sale

Good morning iPad Lawyer Tribe –

You’ve heard me rave about TrialPad and you’ve seen me demonstrate it during my live events. Well, TrialPad has gone on sale today. Normally, the app is $89.99. Today, it is only $49.99. YOU SAVE $40.00!

App Store Link – https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/trialpad-organize-present/id828542236?mt=8

Publisher Link – http://www.litsoftware.com/

TrialPad is one of the courtroom presentation tools I highly recommend for use with your iPad. For me, it’s intuitive, easy to use, and simple to implement as part of your Trial workflow. You can use the app to create callouts in documents, highlight text, create side-by-side document comparisons, edit and show video clips, add exhibit stickers to documents, search document text, etc.

Also, a little head’s up — TrialPad 4.1 has just been submitted to Apple for approval and will be a free update to those who already have the app. Even more incentive to get this while it’s on sale.

I’m told that this crazy price reduction is only good through Sunday, August 24, so download your copy now. All of my attorneys have it on their iPads. That should tell you something.

One final thing. Not that it should matter, but I am not an affiliate with the app’s publisher and I don’t make any money on this recommendation. This is just one of those apps I think you should have, so I’m helping to promote it.

Here’s to your continued iPad success! – Scott

The iPad Lawyer | Just the Fax, Ma’am

The iPad Lawyer | Just the Fax, Ma’am
By
Scott J. Grossberg, Esq.

Recently, during my live events, I have been asked about sending and receiving facsimiles from your iPad and iPhone. Personally, I don’t know why you wouldn’t train others to send you emails and attachments instead. But . . . for those of you who are still wedded to your facsimile workflow, you will find what I’m about to tip to you to be a godsend.

So . . .

Yes, you can receive facsimile transmissions on your iOS device.

Yes, you can send facsimile transmissions on your iOS device.

Yes, there are even a few free services.

That being said, there are many of the facsimile apps that just don’t seem to work or have poor reviews.

Here’s the roundup of what you will want to consider:

Fax Burner
http://www.faxburner.com/
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/fax-burner/id392640124?mt=8

You will need an account. You provide them with your email address. In return, they send you a temporary facsimile number that remains valid for 24 hours. You can send and receive your facsimiles with this number. You are sent any incoming transmissions to your email address with an attachment. With the free version. you are limited to 25 pages per month and 5 pages in any one transmission. Incoming facsimiles are stored as PDFs.

When you’re ready to upgrade and get a permanent toll-free phone number for incoming and outgoing facsimile transmissions, you can pay $9.97 or $19.97 per month depending on the options you want.

Fax Burner also integrates with Dropbox and box.com.

iFax
http://www.ifaxapp.com/
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ifax-send-receive-faxes/id331514859?mt=8

iFax is free to download as an app. But it is not free to use. Here’s the current pricing structure:

Up to 5 pages – $.99
Up to 10 pages – $1.99
Up to 15 pages – $2.99
Up to 20 pages – $3.99
Up to 25 pages – $4.99

There are also pricing plans for unlimited facsimile transmissions for 1, 3, 6, and 12-month periods.

Breezy
http://www.breezy.com/
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/breezy-easy-print-fax-for/id438846342?mt=8

Another one of those free app but pay-as-you-go structures. In-app credits range from $1.99 for a 10-pack up to $19.99 for a 100-pack.

Fax Print & Share
http://www.ndilitechnologies.com/index.php/products/18-fax-print-nshare
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/fax-print-share-pro/id351547502?mt=8

Strangely, this app costs $1.99 for the Lite version and $8.99 for the Pro version just to download. Then there are in-app purchases for transmissions.

MaxEmail Fax
http://www.maxemail.com/max/iphone.html
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/maxemail-fax/id514392342?mt=8

You can sign up for a 30-day free trial. After that, there are Lite, Plus, and Corporate plans that will cost you a $10 activation fee and then from $24 per year up to $9.95 per month (a corporate account is more). Here is the pricing plan comparison page:

http://www.maxemail.com/max/comp.html

MyFax
http://www.myfax.com
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/myfax/id380939947?mt=8

You can sign up for a 30-day free trial. Then you pay $10 per month that allows you to send up to 100 pages and receive up to 200 pages per month. While the pricing is certainly enticing, the current app reviews are less than favorable at the moment.

RECOMMENDATION: From my research, I would go with Fax Burner or iFax at the moment.

But . . .

With the increased stability, reliability, and effectiveness of cloud storage providers and email (including Microsoft Office 365’s new 1 TB storage capacity for OneDrive), I urge you to move away from facsimile transmittals to the extent possible.

Additionally, you can use your iOS device as a scanner to create PDFs that can then be sent by email. Two of my recommendations for this type of workflow are:

Scanner Pro by Readdle
http://readdle.com/
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/scanner-pro-by-readdle/id333710667?mt=8

Prizmo
http://www.creaceed.com/iprizmo/about
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/prizmo-scanning-ocr-speech/id366791896?mt=8

Whether you use one of the iOS facsimile apps or put my suggested workflow into play, now is the perfect time to move to a paperless office. You will find that documents are easier to store and access.

If you enjoyed this, I’d be grateful if you share this with others. That’s right, go ahead and help spread this information by emailing it to a friend, or sharing it on Twitter, Facebook, or Google+.
