Good morning iPad Lawyer Tribe –
If you haven’t been notified, yet, there’s a big iOS update for your devices – iOS 7.1. There are so many changes/updates/revisions that Apple has actually created a separate page outlining what’s been done for you:
I downloaded and installed the update yesterday on all my devices. It only took a few minutes and I did not experience any glitches or challenges. My update was done through WiFi, by the way. Naturally, I encourage each of you to backup your iOS devices FIRST and then download the update.
You get to the update this way:
1. Go to SETTINGS
2. Tap on GENERAL
3. Tap on SOFTWARE UPDATE
Of course, the big news is the CarPlay feature for the iPhone. Unfortunately, this requires you to have a CarPlay-enabled vehicle. So, let me outline a few of the features and benefits you can use right now . . .
The most noticeable difference for me has been the bold font. You now get that font on your keyboard, as well. You can enable this visibility enhancement:
1. Got to SETTINGS
2. Tap on GENERAL
3. Tap on ACCESSIBILITY
4. Slide the BOLD TEXT option to ON (Green)
You will have to restart your device when you enable this option.
For your Calendar, you now have an ability to display your daily events in a small window while in the month view of the calendar on your iPhone. Your iPad already gives you that information.
TouchID has been enhanced and recognition improved.
And, as to Siri, you can now control when she starts and stops listening by simply holding down the Home Button while you speak and letting it go when you’re finished. Previously, you had to wait for Siri to notice you were done speaking.
For those of you who like to take HDR photos, you can now set your camera to automatically take those types of photos.
And there are some other refinements like the “look” of some of the onscreen buttons (like “slide to power off”). It also appears that animations are rendered faster.
On the app front, you’ve heard me rave about Notesy before. This is THE app I use for typed notes, time and billing entries, even writing articles. Well the app’s been updated to now integrate fully with TextExpander Touch (the app I’ve also told you about for creating incredibly powerful keyboard shortcuts and something that should be part of your automated document assembly workflow). Notesy is only $4.99 and well worth it.
