iPad Lawyer News – 5/29/2013

Greetings iPad Lawyer Tribe –

I have more exciting app news for you.

If you’re going to manage your passwords with elegance, ease, and power, there is no finer app to help you than AgileBit’s 1Password. You can read more about the app on the publisher’s site:

Today, the iPad/iPhone app is available for $8.99. It is normally $17.99. That’s a $9 savings for you! You can get the app here:

There is also a new audio recorder available for you to explore called Recordium. The app allows you to record in WAV, CAF, AIFF, and MP4 formats which can then be emailed (among other options). And the best part is that the app is FREE until the end of the week.

Here’s the publisher’s website:

And here’s where you can get the app:

Enjoy your app adventures! – Scott

iPad Lawyer News – 5/28/2013

Greetings iPad Lawyer Tribe –

You’ve seen me present with it and explain how I sometimes incorporate this into my Keynote presentations. Well, BEEDOCS’ Timeline 3D app is only $1.99 today (it is normally $10.99). I use the iPad app with the desktop version (which is more robust and flexible . . . and much more expensive) and then use the desktop version to export the 3D timeline into Keynote as slides that can be annotated and expanded upon with video and photograph clips, pleadings, medical records, etc.

For those who are interested in exploring this timeline creation tool, the iPad version is available here:

The desktop version can be found here:

And, here is a list of my upcoming iPad Lawyer seminars:

May 31 – “Get Me Going” iPad Lawyer Program (3 Hours)
Costa Mesa
Hosted by PMA Dispute Resolution & Sarnoff Discovery Services

June 7 – Advanced iPad Lawyer Workshop (3 Hours)
Rancho Cucamonga
Hosted by Cihigoyenetche, Grossberg & Clouse

June 18 – “Using the iPad to Grow Your Law Practice” (1+ Hour) Newport Beach
Hosted by Apple Inc.

If you’d like more information on any of these events, please contact Veronica Speed at 909-483-1850 or email me at

iPad Lawyer News – 5/27/2013

Greetings iPad Lawyer Tribe –

Happy Memorial Day! I just have one bit of app news for you – and it’s pretty sweet. You’ve heard me talk about my current “go-to” calendar/task manager/contact app Pocket Informant Pro (normally $14.99) before. Today, the price is $4.99 (a $10 savings).

And, here’s the hyperlink for the Quick Start Guide PDF (I recommend putting it in GoodReader):—quick-start-guide

Now, go out and make your iPad a powerful part of your day! – Scott

iPad Lawyer News – 5/21/2013

Greetings iPad Lawyer Tribe –

For those who want to create audio recordings on your iPad in MP3, AAC, CAF, or WAV formats, Recording Pro is FREE today. Normally this app is $1.99. It’s not the best recording app out there, but now that’s it’s free, it might be worth your time to explore. You can get it here:

And here is some update news!

TextExpander – the wonderful typing shortcut tool for both your desktop (Mac) and iPad (iOS) now supports fill-ins on the iPad. I use TextExpander every single day to enhance my productivity and be more effective and consistent.

The desktop version ($34.95) can be found here:

The iPad app ($4.99) can be found here:

The true power of TextExpander, for me, is using the iOS and Mac versions together. I don’t recommend one without the other. Unfortunately, there is no PC version.

Finally, Pocket Informant Pro ($14.99) has just gotten a makeover and update.

There are too many new and updated features of this app to list here. Go to the link, above, and read all that this wonderful calendaring, contact management, task, and note tool can do for you. Pocket Informant Pro is my current go-to calendar  and reminder app. For those who have been to my live events, you have seen how important it is to have your tasks actually show up in your calendar. Pocket Informant Pro let’s you do just that.

That’s all for today. Go out and make your iPad a powerful part of your day! – Scott

Yes, You’re Special (If You Use an External Keyboard)

The iPad Lawyer – Yes, You’re Special (If You Use an External Keyboard)

Scott J. Grossberg, Esq.

Many have asked what I use in place of Microsoft Word on my iPad. At the moment, I prefer Quickoffice HD Pro as my primary “Word” replacement. However, there are also apps like DocsToGo and Pages that are worthy contenders. The apps change their features so often that I shift back and forth between them.

You can take a look at these apps for yourself at these locations:

QuickOffice Pro HD ($19.99)

DocsToGo Premium ($16.99)

Pages ($9.99)

Now the fun part of using any word processing app on the iPad or inputting text – using an external keyboard. I happen to use the Zaggkeys PROplus iPad Keyboard (with backlit keys):

However, what I am about to teach you is doable from any external keyboard.

Go to your keyboard – RIGHT NOW – and give this a go:

1. Press the alt/option key
2. Then press “e”
3. Then press “a” and you will get á

After pressing the alt/option key, you will use the following combinations for your special characters (substituting your letter for the “a” in the following example):

` + a = à
e + a = á
u + a = ä
i + a = â
n + a = ã

You will notice that, after you press the alt/option key with the `, e, u, i, n keys the “special” character will be highlighted. Typing your chosen letter will replace that highlight with the accented character.

You might already know this but you can also set international keyboards on the iPad by going into Settings, then General, then Keyboard. You can also readily switch between keyboards from your external keyboard by hitting the CMD key and space bar together.

Finally, here are some other external keyboard shortcuts you might want to use:

Command-A – Select all text
Command-C – Copy selected text
Command-V – Paste text from clipboard
Command-X – Cut selected text
Command-Z – Undo
Command-Shift-Z – Redo
Command-Up Arrow – Scroll to top of page
Command-Down Arrow – Scroll to bottom of page
Command-Left Arrow – Jump to beginning of line
Command-Right Arrow – Jump to end of line
Option-Left Arrow – Jump to beginning of previous word
Option-Right Arrow – Jump to beginning of next word
Shift-Arrow Keys – Select text

I highly recommend adding an external keyboard to your iPad success toolkit. It makes crafting and editing longer documents a breeze!

Until next time, stay special.

If you enjoyed this, I’d be grateful if you share this with others. That’s right, go ahead and help spread this information by emailing it to a friend, or sharing it on Twitter, Facebook, or Google+.
